I am looking for information on the Crown Inn which was located in Merthyr Tydfil in the early 1900's. It was probably on High Street. We stopped at the new Crown Inn recently but the person we talked to said that it is just a pub and there are now rooms. I believe that the Crown Inn had rooms. Also, where is Dowlais in comparison to where the New Crown Inn is located. It is possible that the Crown Inn I am looking for was in Dowlais? I don't know M T well--visited just once recently. Am from US tracing family who lived there.

Hello, I see you posted this a while ago so not sure if you will see this reply or not. I was just wondering what the family name is that you are researching. My g-g-grandfather Robert Scott ran the pub according to the 1871 census. He moved around to different pubs, I believe he was at The Nelson when he died but some of his sons took on the trade so they may have been at the Crown at a later date. Jackie

Hi jackie! Robert Scott, born around 1803 from Roxburgh, Scottland and his wife Dina(h) Scott (maiden name Edwards) had The Crown Inn in Nelson (Llanfabon)when he died in 1873, aged 70. Dina(h) Scott died in 1888, aged 86 years old. They were my great great great grandparents. Many of the Scott family are buried in St Mabon's Church in Llanfabon.

Hi Bailey, sorry not to have responded earlier. I was on holiday when your message arrived and then things were hectic when I got home. Anyway, it seems we are related. My grandmother was Amelia Jane Williams, daughter of Griffith Parry Williams and Martha Vienna Scott. I notice that in another post you said in another post that some of your family were sent off to Torquay to build roads at age 14. Several of my grandmother's siblings were sent to Canada at 14, so it seems this branch of the family has been dispersed far and wide! Jackie

Hi Jackie, Just seen this! I have never heard of Martha Vienna Scott. Can you tell me who her parents are? My side of the family descend from Robert Dodds Scott, his son John Scott and John's son William Scott, who is my Nan, Phyllis Scott's father. Phyllis had a half-brother Willie (William) Scott born in 1878, who disappeared from the Census Records after 1891. I was thinking that perhaps he emigrated. Have you ever heard of Willie Scott?

I have been emailing a relative of Charles Scott who has done loads of research ... Go to roots chat and search for him. John Scott was the lock keeper at Lock y Waun cottage on the Merthyr to Cardiff Canal at Abercynon. I was sent loads of info about the family. If you send me a private message, with email address, I'm happy to share stuff with you. 😁
