Hi, I am the grand-daughter of a John Street resident. My grandfather was Kenneth William Davies and he lived at 14 John Street, certainly at times between July 1939 and 1947. My great-grandmother Martha Ann Davies, Ken's mother lived at 3 Lawn Terrace, Bethesda Street when I was a young child.
I also remember Gladys Rawson and her shop. I remember going there as a very young child and it was just the sort of shop a child would love to stay in - full of wonderful shelves, with amazing sweets on.
I am doing loads of family history research and am trying to find out where the French side of my family had their shop in Merthyr. It is numbered 35 on a very old photo I have. My mother was also a Marion Davies who married a Bernard Altmeyer. They lived the other side of Brecon, after they left Bath.
I love reading your posts so if anyone has any further details, look forward to the posts.

I lived in John Street for sixteen years, went to Georgetown infants school, abermorlais juniors and pentrebach tech, and we went to the college before it was finished. then worked in Lines for a year before going to live in London.I came back in 1958got married in 1959 and followed my husband around with the RAF. after having my second boy in Merthyr I went to Germany to live.my grandfather left Merthyr to join us in London. So why is it that no one remembers me.
